2009 Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin
Welcome to 1907! Well, not really...but in the numismatic community, it's 1907 all over again. The US mint has announced that they will issue a 2009 Double Eagle Gold Coin with the design of the 1907 Double Eagle Gold Coin.
The gold coin will be made of 1 ounce of 24-karate gold, have a very limited mintage for 2009 and also be legal tender in the U.S.
So Why Use the 1907 Design?
In the numismatic community, the 1907 Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 Double Eagle is said to be the most attractive and beautiful coin ever made by the U.S. Mint. The coin has the ability to take you back to a time when the artistic value of the coin was of utmost importance.
Even though the coin is based on an old design, it will still have some modern features. For example it will include 50 stars instead of the 46 which was on the original. It will also include the Roman numerals of MMIX, which of course is the number 2009.
Because current laws dictates the placement of the words, “In God We Trust” they will be inscribed on the reverse side.
